The Adoption Experience

Adoption is a concept that has been around basically forever. Adoption can be for animals, people, or really anything. Adoption can be difficult, especially for children who grew up in foster care or foster homes.

I was adopted from the hospital as a newborn, so I never really had to go through the difficulty of the foster care system. Being adopted can still be difficult for someone as it is, though. It can cause people to develop identity issues as they age because they are unaware of their history, and it can cause people to feel lost. I have a bad relationship with my biological mother, and she adopted and fostered a kid for four years. She is giving him back to the state now and taking the whole thing to court. I cannot imagine how he feels, he has no one and the family who had him for four years is just suddenly getting rid of him. It hits close to home for me because that easily could have been me in a situation like that if I was not as fortunate as I am. I cannot imagine how hard it must be to go through the foster care system, and I send my best regards to anyone who has.

Most adopted children have little to no contact with their biological parents or family in general. I am lucky enough to know both of my parents, even if I only have a close relationship with my dad. Adoption is a great thing, and I am thankful for it. However, seeing how many heartbreaks come from it makes me wonder about it more. A lot of people cannot keep their children when they have them, and for that, I think adoption is a good thing, but it’s sad when it is a result of children not having good living situations or being taken from homes when they are older. Overall, I do not think adoption is a bad thing. I just wish it did not have the outcome or reasoning that it did because, really no child deserves to live a life without any parents at all.
