Steam Deck Set to Debut in December

[UPDATE] As of November 17th, 2021, the Steam Deck launched date has been pushed back to February, 2022.

Valve revealed their brand new handheld device, called the Steam Deck on July 15, 2021 on Twitter, and their website, Steam. This new device is a handheld ‘computer’ for gamers on the go. It is set to debut in December, a specific date has yet to be announced.

This device is a portable computer, as said by Gabe Newell, Valve CEO and Founder “We think Steam Deck gives people another way to play the games they love on a high-performance device at a great price,” He continued, “As a gamer, this is a product I’ve always wanted. And as a game developer, it’s the mobile device I’ve always wanted for our partners.” when speaking with Eurogamer.

You can reserve a Steam Deck as of July 18th, 2021. This means that you can put a downpayment on the device, for the small fee of $5 USD. This fee is refundable, and is not an obligation to buy the product. If you were lucky, you would’ve been able to get a reservation in December. Majority of others will be waiting until the 2nd quarter of 2022 for their Steam Deck.

The handheld device is 7-inches large, compared to the Switch OLED, Nintendo’s handheld gaming device. A dock will be available separately to connect the Steam Deck to external displays, wired networking, and more.

The resolution will be 1280x800px (16:10 Aspect Ratio). While also having a refresh rate of 60Hz.
