Grand Theft Auto V’s Expanded and Enhanced Trailer Releases to Little Fanfare

Christopher Sedaca, Editor-In-Chief

Rockstar Games released the new trailer for Grand Theft Auto V, Expanded and Enhanced to little fanfare. Fans of the game quickly took to Reddit and Twitter to express disappoint and betrayal to a 3rd release of essentially the same game.  Based on the trailer, many fans see Rockstar Games’ reputation as a respectable gaming company deteriorating. Rockstar Games has the release date for PS5 and Xbox Series X for March 2022.

Many compare the recent trailer to the PS4 game-play, pointing out there is almost no difference between the two in YouTube comments. Fans are outraged noting the game is being released for the 3rd time without a real difference in story, style, or game-play.

Grand Theft Auto (GTA) V was originally released in 2013, for the PS3 and Xbox 360 respectively. Since then, the GTA franchise has cemented itself in gaming history, selling over 150 million copies of the game, and becoming the most sold media product in the world. GTA V has generated close to 6 billion dollars in revenue for Rockstar Games and their parent company Take-Two since the game’s launch back in 2013.

Along with the new trailer for Grand Theft Auto V, Expanded and Enhanced, Rockstar Games announced the game itself has been delayed until March, 2022, 5 months later than the original release date. Fans took to social media to express their outrage and disapproval of the game’s direction; pointing out the PS4 version and the PS5 version look almost exactly the same. As of September 15th, 2021, the new GTA 5 Trailer has  over 168,000 dislikes, becoming Rockstar’s most disliked video on their YouTube channel. On the PlayStation channel, the same video has over 188,000 dislikes, compared to 28,000 likes.

We will have to wait and see if the game will do a 180 turn on their plans when it releases for PS5 and Xbox Series X in March, 2022. However, for now, many are disappointed.
