The new live-action remake of Snow White has officially flopped. According to Mirror News, the movie starring Rachel Zegler is “set to lose an astonishing $115 million (£90 million) at the box office.” I can’t help but agree with the public when they say that Zegler is part, if not most, of the reason this movie isn’t well-liked.
Another news channel spoke about how Zegler had said “‘There’s a big focus [in the original] on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird! So we didn’t do that this time.” While I can understand how she sees that as weird when you consider the fact that live actions are only supposed to be the animated movie in real life her point of view in my opinion is idiotic. Even if you see it as “weird” that’s how the original movie was written. You can’t just change whatever you want about it. Once again the whole point of Live action remakes are to just be the same movie in real life. Not an entirely different movie with a different plot.
She also said that she was “scared of the original cartoon” as a child and had only “watched it once.” How are you going to play the role of a character in a movie you said yourself, you don’t like? Why would you go and try to fix a movie when most people liked it as it was. Snow White was a classic Disney movie and changing the story just doesn’t make much sense.
I also agree with the public when talking about her dress. Zegler’s dress barely resemble the original Snow White dress. While there were similarities, it wasn’t the same, and honestly, it didn’t look good. For example, the bottom of the corset-like top of Zegler’s dress was straighter and almost square, whereas the original Snow White’s dress came to a slight point like a corset. The blues used on the top could have been darker, and the yellow of the skirt could have been paler to at least try to color match the original. Zegler also didn’t wear the red bow headband that Snow White did, and her hair is nothing like Snow White’s. While I understand that such items like costumes and hair are expensive and complicated, in all honesty, I’ve seen cosplay and party princesses with better hair, dress quality, and accuracy.
Overall, I feel like the Snow White live action would’ve still been bad without Zegler but it’d be a lot better than it is now.
