A sweet potato pie is a subtly spiced pie made with sweet potatoes and spices you already have on hand. In the 18th century, it was known as a savory vegetable dish but is known more now as a dessert.
What you’ll need
- 4 large sweet potatoes
- 3 pie crust
- 1 cup melted butter
- 2 ½ cups of sugar
- 4 room-temperature large eggs
- ¼ cup of buttermilk
- 1 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp lemon extract
Step 1
Boil 4 sweet potatoes until they are soft to the touch, then carefully peel them and let them cool.
Step 2
Mash the potatoes, then add the following ingredients: sugar, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well until blended.
Step 3
Mix in one egg at a time, then add your flour in slowly. Make sure it is mixed well.
Step 4
Proceed to add the milk, melted butter, and both extracts. After mixing well, pour the mixture into the pie crust.
Step 5
Cook at 375 degrees for 45-60 minutes depending on the temperature.
