This year’s homecoming dance has mixed opinions and concerns about the prices and the limited amount of tickets. While I understand the reasoning behind limiting the tickets, as the school can only fit so many bodies into one area, I believe that the tickets are overpriced.
This year’s homecoming dance falls on Oct. 12 and tickets are being sold at twenty dollars a person. Most students do not have jobs, as many do not meet the age requirement, have the time, or any transportation to get to and from a job. This means that students are relying on the money they have saved up over time or their parents to go ahead and pay for their homecoming ticket.
While some parents may be able to give their child the money, some parents may not be able to afford spending an extra twenty dollars for their student to go to a school dance. Even if a parent is willing to pay twenty dollars for a ticket, they still might have to help their child pay for their outfit for the dance, meaning the high ticket price is an extra financial burden for them to worry about.
There are some decent arguments to be made about the ticket price, such as covering the cost of food, drinks, and other expenses relating to the dance or the school. However, twenty dollars per ticket is still too much money for a high school dance.
Even though I am okay with the limited amount of tickets, plenty of students are not okay with this. According to the flyer found on Canvas, there are only 1000 tickets available for purchase and “no outside guests” allowed.
Sarah Ford believes that the limited amount of tickets is “unfair” because tons of students would like to attend the dance.
Eliana Escolero shares the same thinking, believing that it is unfair because “a lot of the students would like to go.”
Whether someone thinks the ticket prices and availability are fair just depends on the way you look at it. Overall, I think that the ticket prices are too overpriced but that the limited tickets are okay because there is not enough room to hold all the students at the school at the dance.
